Large Format Abstracts
Recently, I was commissioned to produce a series of eight large-format abstract screen prints — and I had a lot of fun making them! It was an interesting brief because it’s not the kind of work I usually design or produce — a bit outside my wheelhouse, honestly.
For the creative approach, I photographed some concrete tiles I’d made in the past, using their marbled and speckled textures as shapes layered into different compositions.
Often, when I spend a few days making something like concrete tiles for no obvious reason, I feel a bit guilty — like I’m procrastinating or avoiding “real” work. So it’s especially satisfying when those spontaneous experiments end up being part of a finished piece — more than just something to put under a plant pot. This time, they became the foundation for original artworks made entirely from my own materials and ideas, from start to finish.
I suppose I need to trust that impulse to make — whatever form it takes. It’s never wasted time.
This series will be exhibited together for the first time at The Beacon as part of Coastal Currents 2025. More info coming soon — keep an eye out if you’d like to see them in person.
